Maybe try laying the spoon on a table (solid background) and take a picture of it. Then zoom in on the picture and see if you can read it. Your picture/camera seemed to focus on your finger prints.

Example here's a picture I just took of a pistol's markings from about 10 inches away with my cell phone. Second picture shows a crop of the same picture after I zoomed in. Markings are crisp and readable.
