Could we see the backside of that. It's the most worked mortar and oddly shaped one I have seen.:icon_scratch:

Nice find and size of it would be nice. Looks worked for sure.

Nice find. Looks heavy.......great save.

could be colonial? very nice object in any case.

That's nice but it looks like the salt blocks we put out for cows and deer down here. I have never saw a mortar like that before and that is sweet...d2

They need to taste test it. Looks like a salt block.... Impressive piece otherwise.

Hmm. I was not familiar with salt blocks, but I see what you mean....

remember too...a salt block wouldn't last forever out in the wild.

It may have not been out very long. I use them all the time. They look just like this in short order.

It looks like the remains of a mineral block to me. It sure is the right color and appears to have been licked down. Hope I'm wrong. JMO.

easy enough to find out

It weighs about 30 pounds it looks like red granite to me but I see what you mean by a salt block!

Lick your finger and wipe the block with wet finger and lick your finger. Good old taste test:tongue3:

Sure looks like a trace mineral block ?

I think you should lick it and find out :)

I think it looks like a mineral block also. It looks like in the pictures the left side was on the ground.

Someone may be missing a salt block from their pasture or from in front of their deer stand. I can see where it would be an easy mistake to make for people that haven't grown up around cows or in the country...d2
