The owner of the fields where I hunt came to see me today. He has cut all of his corn down and harvested it. He says I can hunt the parts that are empty. I asked if he owned the land across from the other field and he said yes. :laughing7: I then asked him if I could hunt that part and he said yeah thats fine 8-).
So now I have some virgin land to hunt!
But now I have to choose and this is where you guys and gals come in.
Do I hunt the creek?
Do I hunt the new field?
Do I hunt the field from last year?
I can hunt all of these but winter is coming soon and the creek will be out till next summer when it gets cold.
I can hunt the new field but the cover crop goes down in 2 weeks for the winter and will grow fast with the rains.
I can hunt last yrs fields but have already did all of them last yr and it didnt get plowed since.
So whats the answer? Im only 1 person and its allot of land.
Thanks, rock

If it rains field if the leaves aren't interfering with the creek idk that's tuff you should pick one person to take one off you work load lol

purchase a few plane tickets and invite all us down and search it all.

Rock if the new field has had 4in of rain fall, then it's ready to hunt. I always try and let the rain make my work easier, if the water level is right in the creek it's ready to be walked. I understand you being pulled back and forth from one spot to another, Artifact hunting is like deer hunting, it's all about being in the right spot at the right time. GOOD LUCK and HH:occasion14:

They are saying 40% chance of rain for the weekend. I guess if the creek is dirty I will head to the new field. Its rite across the road from the other ones I hunted last yr. I am going to view it from the birds view rite now on google earth. Later and I hope everyone finds a real killer on their next hunt! rock

He cut the corn but did he disc it ? You might find some bare areas to check out. Hit the high humps first. Might be a great spot. If nothing get back in that creek as you are getting some big sherds coming out.

No plowing done on it. But they might just be on the top like last yr or might not. That side is not the best finds for me from last yr. That field might be different though never know till you look. Ill drive by it first to see how it looks if it isnt showing dirt Ill be going to the creek. I just looked at it and it looked good last yr on GE. Now the beans wont be harvested till Sept and that will be in both areas. He has fields all over the area. All fields have creek access to different creeks. I cant wait till my next day off. I might have to flip a coin, lol

Forget about the field from last year.. you already know all about it..and it didn't even get turned over.
It's a fall back spot at best.
You don't know anything about that new field yet and it's ready.
Don't pass that up.
If I were you I'd do a fast recon of the field.. then decide weather or not to get back to the creek..where you already have positive sign of artifacts in the area... the creek isn't going to be planted and it will get lower as the wet season ends.

Awesome hope you find a bucket full

Hey I'm loving that pottery pic you have as your avatar! If it was me I would stay in the creek for a bit. Congrats on the new hunting areas...looks like a great place to be!

Well today I drove by all my spots. The creek is flooded and muddy. Looks deep with allot of current, so thats out for now. The new field looked good but somebody let all their cows go into it and they were all over it, so thats out. No yak trip due to all of the rain we had today, so thats out. So it looks like I will spend some time in my old hunting fields from last yr. There is still 1 field I havent hunted much due to I just scanned it real fast last yr and didnt find much. Ill spend some time in it a bit more tomorrow. I did notice last yr you can walk 20 ft and find nothing then walk another 20 ft and find everything. Ill give it another go and then go by the creek in the lower half after. Last yr I found some good flint artifacts oh and Ill take my camera. HH, rock

Are you afraid of cows?
Get in there and stomp your foot on the ground a couple times..they will move away.

LOL Ive never been near a cow before.

Haha.. mooo.. I mean...BOOO!
nothing to worry about unless he has a bull in with them..just ask him.

I bet there was a hundred of them. Good news is they were eating all of the corn stalks and nubs. Maybe they will kick up some points for me. Im taking a vacation next week so I can hit all of these spots before some disappear. In 2-3 weeks the beans come up and then I can go back to the creek where I found the pottery and walk the field above the spot. I hope to find some real killers there.

Man I wish I was a weather person! Making a 100K a yr and just sitting around in the backroom bs-ing with all of the guys. The reason I say this is cause it is pouring down rain and thunder & lighting. They have been saying 40% all week long. I guess no hunt today. The road is red clay which turns to slippery mud. I cant go out when its like that, one of the rules.

Directions, can't get to the Rock family reunion/arrowhead hunt without them. LOL good for you.

Thanks it will just make it much better for next week cause we havent had any rain since the field was harvested. I am hoping all of the flint will be popping by the time I get there.

Rock, Cows are just 4 legged plows! They will mosh things up and the rain may help to wash away the surface soil leaving your artifacts on a neat little pedestal! Just be sure to make enough of a ruckus so the bulls know that you are a bull too, if you know what I mean... lol.

...watch out for the cows that are mounting other cows...they are in season and will mount you if you are not careful... and I am not joking neither. you can get seriously hurt when they drive you smack into the ground.
