Over the past two weeks while doing some jobs around the area I had noticed a site that is in a older part of town
(Grass Valley, Ca.) that looked as if a building had been removed, Its a small lot nestled between a couple of professional buildings, well after checking on a couple of jobs that I had coming up next week I stopped at this lot and decided to give it a shot, checked with a couple of people at professional builds to see if they knew who owned the lot nobody knew, there was no No Trespassing signs, no fences. After detecting for about 15-20 minutes, this mid aged man yells at me "Hey what are you doing, I told you guys to stay out of here." After explaining to him that I never been here before, He started telling me that someone had been there a couple of weeks ago DIGGING BIG HOLES, looking for bottles, that it took him a day to clean up the mess. I then showed him the spots I had been and showed that I was returning everything as the way I found it, his comment "if I let you I have to let everyone" I apologized and left, less then 5 min later the rain come back in. Here is what I found in the short time there, 4 Wheaties a small Pendant & awhatsit.

If it's not fenced or posted, you're not sneaking, just being discreet.

HH and remember, "Out of Sight, out of Mind".

No site should ever be hunted without permission.

Treasure hunter's code of ethics

I will respect private property and do no treasure hunting without the owner's permission.
I will fill all excavations
I will appreciate and protect our heritage of natural resources, wildlife, and private property.
I will use thoughtfulness, consideration, and courtesy at all times.
I will build fires in designated or safe places only.
I will leaves gates as found.
I will remove and properly dispose of any trash I find.
I will not Litter.
I will not destroy property, buildings, or what is left of ghost towns or deserted structures.
I will not tamper with signs, structural facilities, or equipment.

No need to be out of site or out of mind. With permission the hobby can be enjoyed, and one can be seen by all as a model of how THers conduct themselves in a proper manner.

IMHO- Ken

I did give a honest effort to get permission, after all failled, with no signs posted, I gave it a shot.
Did do some checking found who is the owner, ended up talking to the owners son (who ended up being the same guy that confronted me) he did say if I came by when he was working there, to check then and he might let me MD but only if he is present. Sounds like their planing to build on the site.

We should all know by now that if the Powers that be notice the sheep/us having fun, they’ll find a way to Tax or Ban it. Our motto should be, Out of site, Out of mind

This is why I try to hunt the public places (except for schools) during the day, and the private more secluded places on the weekends (when lots of people are around), because even though most just ignore there are the one percent that want to cause trouble for those minding their own business.
