I have a garret gti 1500. Is it a decent unit.

First off, welcome to the site...

I had a GTA 1000, and found it to be an excellent coin shooter. Only complaint was
that the shaft broke right at the control housing, and there was no fixing it.

For shallow coin hunting in a park or dry sand, sure. For salt water wet and deep stuff, no.

I had a Garrett GTI 1500, I loved it, especially with the imaging coil. I found silver dimes with it 10" deep. So it just depends on how deep you are willing to dig. My limit is 10-12" and the older I get, it gets less deep. Depth is subjective, remember the two guys pissing off a bridge, it's either cold or deep.
