Arrowhead thoughts?

Hi and thank you in advance for your thoughts on this piece. I have had this fir awhile. And have always thought it was neat. Has a paper with where it was found and other info. Ive never heard if a ceremonial arrowhead. Its black on one side and white on the other. Are these harder to come by? I think its just cool.

That’s made from Knife River flint from ND. It gets a white patina from being exposed to the elements for a very long time. I’d wager that point is much older than the caption says. I also doubt it is ceremonial and it’s just another spear point or knife.

I agree with Toddspoint and others, it is the patina from laying on the surface for who knows how long, the dark side was in contact with ground. I also agree, it is a lot older than stated and not a ceremonial piece.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts on this. Forgive my ignorance on this question. When Toddpoint says knife, was that for scraping hide or cutting certain items? And thinking older than what the label says? Is that because of the elements turning it white?

It is a cool piece, but I don't know where they came up with 'ceremonial'. Usually that's applied to items that nobody has a clue what they were used for. Exposure probably did turn that one side white, I've seen that on some points I've found, depending on the material used. Without going into it too much, there are such things as ceremonial points. These are on arrows in sacred medicine bundles held to this day by certain tribes. These bundles are held by arrow keepers, and no telling how old they are. They would be brought out over the years and refurbished, sorta spruced up, but I would think the points would be ok. I know a whole lot more about that sort of thing, but not supposed to talk about it publicly.
