Hey ,

I just bought a metal detector and it's working pretty fine .

Intro : I am a 30 year old guy with a metal detector and a big piece of private land near ELLORA CAVES .

I am pretty damn optimist that I can find some serious stuff here , given the significance of the Caves . So how do I get started .

1. How do I zero in on a location to start a search

2. What exactly should I be looking for in any area

3. I need to make a kit , what all should it include .

4. Is there any specific plantation type i should be looking for ?

5. Can you suggest some good study material ?

Welcome to the hobby! There's a post here that has some good advice on getting started. The ultra short version is research first to see where people lived, worked, or played, in times past, then obtain permission, then go start hunting! If you already have the land and the permission, you're ahead. Now you just have to figure out where people went on that land in times past, go there, and start digging up history. Local residents and historical societies may be able to tell you about the property, or sometimes old newspapers may mention things that happened there, though you may need to figure out prior owners' names to help with that, since old newspapers usually mentioned people and places by name rather than location or address.

Do you know what’s was previously on your land? Might want to talk to relatives or do an old map overlay.

First, I'd find out if metal detecting is even legal in India, and what the laws are. At least one source I read said anything found belongs to the government, but I would verify that and the particulars.

Search the archives here, google, and YT for info on metal detecting in India. There's a lot.

Seek out a local(?) metal detecting club; they'll likely have some of this info. and more.
