Check it out ,,, We all have been talking about safety in our hobby ... The thing Thats always on my mind when I'm in the water is these rip currents and there really bad here where I hunt,,, We just had 2 people drown last month,, I don't want to be the next one . So I just ordered This vest . I think its Ideal for water detecting . The chest pouch is really cool ,plus 2 side pockets for camera or small marine air horn ,whistle .. Anything to get a lifeguards attention. I never want to have to hear about any of my fellow t-netters having an accident that could have been prevented with a small investment of 140.00. thats a very small price to pay for saving ones life and putting your family and friends through a lot of misery. ya'll be carefull Guzz :wink:

Guzz : that is a nice vest and it would be more comfortable than my ski vest and more streamline and when you inflate that thing it would be a life saver - great Idea, I think I'll get one too- Cavedweller

Hey Guzz,

I guess my eyes were opened too. I just bought a CO2 activated vest myself. Nothing as nice as yours but it will do the job. Got to thinking about the times last year I started feeling leg cramps when the water was cold and the other couple of times in chest deep water where I dug myself into a situation over my head, etc.

Hopefully the tragedy in Michigan will save some lives. I know the likelihood is slim but why chance it.

Hey Jim ... The thing about a rip current is it can come out of Nowhere ,,waste deep.. And lately I have been in a heck of a lot deeper water than that . My neighbor got caught in one a week ago and he just road it out to sand bar. he did the right thing , he DIDN"t Panic . I have also thought about arming myself with a small marine air horn. leak proof pouch for my cell phone and my 2 way radio...... those rip tides and Sharks just freak me out.. Guzz

I use a inflatable vest myself, water here gets deep quick and rips can get you into it fast. I have pulled many a folk out of the drink that could of went home alive if they were wearing a vest in my SAR days.

I was more worried about having to swim with all my stuff, scoop, machine, etc. and needing some floatation to help me. I tried my old dive vest but it got in the way of my swinging so I tried my vest I use bass fishing and it works great as far as not being in my way or clumber some.

The vest is a great idea guys! One thing to anyone looking to get one. There are some that will auto inflate when they hit the water. The one like guzz ordered is manual, thats what you want.

I just ordered one from Cabala's today, a manual inflation one so I can still go into neck deep water. Did it because I knew the hunter in Michigan that died while wading in four foot of water.

guzz- every water hunter should use one.
Here on the Columbia river where we go the bottom drops real fast.
When the grandkids are with we put 'em on a tether tied to something solid.
And a PFD. Fishing and other water sports are great fun but safty is first.
Saw a jeep racing up the river on the sand pulling a skier in the water. LOL

I went shopping for one and I saw the manual inflatable with co2 cartridge suspender type at sports authority on sale for 79.00,, normal price 144.00 that's a great deal. I went with the one I got because of the chest pouch storage area for my camera and a marine type Air Horn and cell phone ,,, more money but it was setup better for metal detecting, guzz1
