Metal Detecting
Last weekend was a first with the San Francisco Fire Department badge. Today I dug a sterling silver dog tag! in 35 years of metal detecting I've dug up
162 dog tags, but never one in sterling silver!

Another first today was a brass sword that measures 8 inches in length.

The area I'm hunting is about 1 mile long with lots of ivy and weeds. It's a challenge swinging the coil through it, i'ts always getting tangled in the coil and shaft.

Also dug some early date wheaties, ( 1911-s, 1917-s, and 1919-s among them. A 1936-S buffalo nickel would top off the day.

Wow that is a lot of dog tags. I've only managed to find 2 or 3 over my 10 years of detecting. Yes that is a nice buffalo nickel. Dated ones are hard to come by.

Awesome hunt, congrats! :occasion14:

What the heck is a Sikkh ceremonial dagger. 20th century.

Congrats on the buff and the dagger. Don't know what it is either.

Letter opener, sweet dog tag

That was one special dog !! Nice collection of dog tags !! Congrats!!

Now that's a whole lotta dog tags, congrats on finally getting a silver one!:headbang:

That is a nice collection of dog tags looks cool in that big pile lots of color

Some nice finds. Lots of patients in that area has paid off nicely. I'd also like to know the age of the Silver dog tag. Interesting dagger too. Nice pics, like how you lay out your hunt. Thanks for sharing.

Way to go. Nice finds

Nice finds CHF. I like that dog tag. I know we have small towns in my area, that had 5 digit telephone numbers in the 1960's. My wife had one, as she lived in one of the small towns I'm referring to.

Next up... a gold dog tag! That is a pretty neat dog tag congrats. My best guess on that scimitar is that it's a letter opener or some kind of tourist item.

Gold or diamond studded platinum. Congratulations on a unique find!

That's actually a 7 digit phone number. They used to use a name (abbreviated to 2 letters) as the first two numbers of the phone number. It was generally the name of the phone exchange closest to your home. I remember one of my old numbers that used that format back in the 1960's. Mine started out GE for Geneva and was in Los Alamitos Ca. I think by the 1970's they pretty much went with all numbers.
