Hey folks, I decided to run to a few banks today to pick up some dimes and nickels and ask the usual question for halves and "big dollar" coins, which the tellers refer to as Ikes since they know about silver. In all I got 1 box of nickels, 1 box of dimes, 24 rolls of loose dimes and 56 ikes.

...no silver in the ikes though.

Banks were closed by me. Really screws my whole system up. Bank on Monday search at lunch then bank on the way home from work search in my car then bank by my house rinse and repeat daily

It's kind of like copper cents, people like round numbers.

I am sure you could get rid of them with different amounts, but I just like finding 100 and then placing LOTs for sale on ebay.. I have done this several times with the starting bid at $125 and have always sold them.. normally they will sell from 130-150... after fees with ebay and paypal, it normally leaves me with about a 20-30 dollar profit. Mind you that is only if you make the buyer also pay for shipping. I literally live 1 block away from a post office, so it is very easy for me to ship them.. Also, always hold onto your receipt when you ship.. Last week I sent them flat rate priority mail and got overcharged 30 bucks by USPS.. Like an idiot i got rid of my receipt after i messaged the tracking info to the buyer because I never had any problems before.. I won't get my money back because I do not have the receipt and will just have to chalk it up to time wasted with no profit.. At least I got good feedback on my ebay account though.

it's frsutrating about auction fees, because honestly, these things fetch quite a premium at auction. I don't know why they go for so much more there, but they do!

I would definitely reccomend selling them 100 at a time over 200 at a time though.. Normally you will see lots of 200 ikes go for 250 on ebay, but you are likely to make more money if you do lots of 100.. That way you have two opportunities for a bidding war to occurr and buyers to hike up their bid..

You can ship 100 Ikes in a small flat rate priority box for $5.15.

Tried to sell 50 clad, circulated Ikes on Craigslist. I didn't have any bites at $1.50 per coin, but quickly sold the lot once I dropped the price to $60 for all ($1.20 per). Not much profit, but the seller came to me and it was easy (even easier than dumping them). Doesn't seem to be huge demand for them on Craigslist in my area, but I'll see what I can do as soon as I've accumulated a decent quantity again.
