I made a Valiant attempt to ID, but need help

[Lafitte Deux]

I found this in my father's garage. He picked it up somewhere years ago. He says he got it at a garage sale. I thought It was a grill badge. I've done a long search, but all I get is info on the Plymouth Valiant, or the TV show Falcon's Crest.

Any info is appreciated. It is 3 3/8" tall by 3 3/8" wide. Metal on leather.

Thanks! Laf

Could it be a family crest or coat of arms?

Is the Valiant name in your family? I agree it looks like a family crest that has no significance outside of the family. I did a quick search but it doesnt match. Valiant Coat of Arms / Valiant Family Crest

Is there any significance of the hole/slot?

I see a Fleur-De-Lis and a funky lion rampant . I dont recognize the top left...is it a wheat sheaf? Scroll down http://www.fleurdelis.com/symbolism.htm

Thats a match. Valiant may mean brave or heroic it says.
I would think it has little to no antique value.

Agreed a match! Mark it as solved!! Well done!!

I don't think it has any antique value either. I'm just curious as to what it's function is.
There in no Valiant name in my family. On the upper left is a castle keep.
Yes, the slot has me curious.
Thanks for the input!
