I did not think I would make it out detecting this weekend and so far that has been true. So I took the DFX out for a walk in the park by working during lunch time. The park is in a pretty bad part of time and I had three cops stop their cars to check me out during a half hour hunt. None of them ventured out of their cars so I think they were just trying to figure out what I was doing and once they did they just moved on.
This is the same park that I found a gold diamond ring and a large coin spill last week. No gold this time but I did find a silver ring that has seen better days. The ground was rock hard but I think this ring was mangled prior to me digging it. At least that is what I'm telling myself. Once I found the ring and read the 925 stamp I knew I was missing the stone. Scanned the dirt pile and hole again and was able to find the stone in a small silver mount. Whatever the stone was it turned white. Looks like it was a very cheap ring to begin with.
Not to far from the ring I found a 1896 Indian Head cent. I knew this park has some history to it but this is the first 100+ year coin I pulled out of it. I'll have to try this part of the park again. Other mentionable finds were a 1959 Roosevelt and a 1957 Wheat Back cent. The 1941 Mercury was not a metal detecting find but I received at the horse track on Wednesday when I cashed in a winning ticket...the teller did not have any others.
