I need black sand concentrates

William..thanks for the links. That pic was taken last spring when I built it, and I just threw a scoop of play sand through it to see the flow tendencies. The ribbed matting is angled 45 degrees to push the heavies in the troff on the left. I will take another pic from a different angle today. That gold is from about 10 minutes running and I ended going inside, as it started pouring outside.

John...I agree totally!! Striking it rich is all in the experience!. (Although tons of Au don't hurt as well lol) I had my daughters out panning with me by the age of 4. Hopefully they cherish the memories as much as I do even though we never found much

OK, that explanation helps me see it a little better .... The only thing I would suggest is getting the water down the matting in a nice smooth flow like in the links I sent you to reduce turbulence, perhaps you do and I just can't see it yet...

JohnDoe,
That bank looked oh so tempting from the first set of pictures. Can you dig that material? If you can't I would think there might be a nice sluff layer right in front of it.
I would be very excited to find that many colors in a small sample, heck I m excited and you found them, of course I can't help but do the math and that is some rich material, at least for me! I would love to have access to some of that.

I was very surprised to see anything in the small sample I took and unfortunately we can not dig into the wall..... However we can take the material that has been eroded from it onto the beach .... so maybe not so unfortunate, nature has saved me some unnecessary work and I do intend to get into that black sand at the base as well as getting into the cobbles along and away from the wall since they work as a natural classifier.

I agree Kevin,
I don't know how long it would take to finish with out that move.

GoldpannerDave,
That's a real cool story, it doesn't surprise me that he was a good guy, but it's great to hear that it's true.
Thanks for sharing.

John

Blueberry finished out that pan so fast I couldn't believe it. I was pretty good at backwashing but combining it with the Blueberry Bump and voila! Gold all on one side with no black sand. It was amazing.

On a side note, Blueberry's son told me that when he was stationed at Galena AFS (late 1970's) he had a sergeant working for him making more on the weekends with gold than the Air Force paid him for the other days of the week. (I know, I know, if you are active duty, they are paying for the entire week since weekends are not automatically free and when you take leave, you take leave for weekends just like regular days.) But you get the idea--he was making more in 2 days than his Air Force pay. Granted we were not paid that much back in the late 70's because Carter decided to make the military be examples for the rest of the country and we got no pay raises under him. When Reagan came in, the military was waaay behind the civilian sector because of that.

Still, gold had not yet hit $800 an oz, so that sergeant was doing quite well. I think the Captain (Blueberry's son) told me the sergeant got out and stayed there to work gold full time.

hi,
are you still looking for black sand? let me know.

This is an old thread.
Not sure what reptwa1 is up to these days.
I'm still plugging along but not getting to the beach as much as I should..... of course this time of year isn't the best either.
