I need help identifying an item please

I bought this at a garage sale for $1.00, and I don't know what it is. It looks like some kind of metal satchel, or mail bag?? There are no markings on it, which leads me to believe it might be handmade.

Any clue on what it is; the value; and what I can list it as on EBAY? Thanks!

Seems kind of big and uncomfortable to be a functional purse. I'm thinking it may be intended to hold tools as some sort of artist/craftsman works. Just a guess. Nice item regardless.

Excellent thought. I have no idea if it's right but it's a great guess.

It has the shape of a Victorian plant collector satchel though this of course is modern.. They have a special name that I do not remember.
