My dad recently passed away and I found this anchor in his garage when I was going through his things. It looks old. It is 50 inches tall and weighs about 20 pounds. Can someone tell me more about it? It is interesting that it only has one prong. It also doesn't have any kind of clevis for attachment. I guess they just tied a rope onto it. I plan to sell it. Can anyone give me an estimate of its value?

FWIW - I found a few that were similar (but BIG) and they were called Single Fluke Anchors.

Are you sure it's an anchor? The "arm" (thanks Mackaydon) look awful short to work correctly. It also looks home made.

I obviously don't know much about anchors, as you can tell from my lack of knowledge regarding the proper terminology. But, it certainly looks genuine and appears to have been in contact with sea water for some period of time, based on surface corrosion/deposits. I wish I had asked my dad about it before he passed away. Still hoping someone out there can shed some light...

Not an anchor...
fish pull hook gaff ... Large fish ?

The reasn I say this is because there is no "eye"..."head" "ring" or "shackle"...
This is a KEY component to an anchor.

I agree with AARC - First look at it and I said to myself, hmmmm, doesn't look like an anchor to me. Looks like a huge hay hook. :dontknow:

Got me... ? ? ?
I am not an "anchor guy"... I just know...
how to use em...
Retrieve lost ones...
Swim with one...
Drop to bottom on one...
Drop one on my foot...
Damage a boat with one...
Loose one...
Get the line tangled beyond belief...
Get the line untangled quickly...
Had a hand(s)caught in the line of one being set... AND released...
Tie one correctly...
Tie one incorrectly...
secure one...
make rode for one...
paint one...
buy one...
sell one...
Find one...
detect one...
Identify most of em,..
AND...
finally...
HOW TO remove one that is stuck on the bottom.

I must have seen over the years... sheeessshhh... I cannot even fathom how many anchors.
I own 10 now myself... 6 types.

Heh.

PS>
What DOES give it the "anchor" "look"... is the "flat" part on the hook.
Which leads me to believe that it may have been used to "hold" / "anchor" something...

Maybe a hot air balloon maybe ?

OR ?

Maybe it is for a guy that studies tornados... up close... :)
And uses it to hold his arse to the ground. :P

I'm going to say it's worth about $.004 per pound. If it looked like the one in in Mackaydon's pic and was made of bronze it could be of some value.
