I dug this pin up at an 1800's house yesterday. I think it says "USN", but my wife (bless her soul) thinks it says "HSN".
What do you folks think? :icon_scratch:
If it is "USN", could it be a United States Navy pin possibly?
Thanks,
MM

Nice find. In my opinion it is a USN pin and my next guess would be the same as yours... a US Navy pin. Congrats.

"D" SN. But maybe "U" SN.

Thanks Tricia.
I never thought of "D"SN. :icon_scratch:

I think definitely USN.
The closest other possibility is VSN, but I don't think it is.

It will be interesting to find out what was its purpose. Maybe a sweetheart's pin?

I'm pretty sure it is a "V"

My uneducated guess though. ;D

This one is driving me crazy now. :tard: :tongue3: :tard: :tongue3: :tard: :tongue3:
Here are the pin & the "U" & "V" together. I circled three differences or similarities.
So what do you think, U or V? :icon_scratch:
Thanks,
MM

This will confuse the issue even more, yet another version of olde english U&V:
http://www.dafont.com/olde-english.font
I still believe it to be the letter U.
Because after much research, I have determined the telling difference to be the serif at the bottom right of the letter.

I agree with him.

I vote 'U'. The difference on top I'd say was a structural modification from keeping the pin from getting bent out of shape. The side difference is merely another modification of the letter. Not all 'Olde English' fonts are the same. The biggest deifference between the two is the bottom right hand serif. Just my two bits (actually 31 cents Canadian).

Thanks GG.
What letter do you think it is?
I'm still going with the letter "U".
The local museum director is trying to track down someone from days gone by with the USN or VSN.
That would be great if he could come up with that.

I still believe it to be the letter U.
Because after much research, I have determined the telling difference to be the serif that you have an arrow pointing to at the bottom right of the letter.
as also pointed out by Likely Guy.
