A friend wants to buy a detector that he can use on the beach as well as land for about £500 ($1000ish).

Would your friend play golf with only one club?

It would be difficult to pick one detector that will work well in the grass or in the wet sand. Add going underwater or just wading and you now have a detector that is heavy for searching dry land. Many water machines don't have a good pinpoint which is needed for searching in parks or lawns. You won't always be able to dig a hole. Also the amount of black sand at the shore may be to heavy for many detectors too and a PI like the Infinium LS will be needed.

A compromise might be the Tiger Shark.

good luck, when you settle on one let us know

I suggest your friend looks at the MineLab XTerra-70 Pro Pac. It comes with interchangeable loops for water and earth. Check the TreasureNet offer. Lots of extras come with it for 848.97

That was my first reaction, however he has never detected so doesn't realise there is a difference between the two technologys. We can't get the Tiger Shark over here, but it maybe worth importing?

I researched this but can't work out which coil you use in the sea water?

:D ;D ;D

A Infinium Might be harder to find though I think they are available in Poland.

If he doesn't understand the differences in dry and wet detecting, you should try to explain it to him; if you haven't already done so.

'We only ship second hand and demo-detectors to the UK'

not sure why nobody suggested the Minelab Sovereign.

Or Excalibur IF he's afraid of Getting the Controls wet going too deep
in the Shallow area.

Is weight a Problem for him ?

Sovereign looks a good option, just over £500 & easy to buy in the UK. Weight I'm not sure of.

I don't do beaches but From what I hear They are Great for going from
dry to wet sand.

And Excellent on depth on the beach.

Plus Great on Dry land also.

With a stock 10.5 Coil you can do it all
