I need some help on markings on silver pendant I found MD'ing today -

I found a silver pendant about size of a half dollar today in the easement between the sidewalk and asphalt. The front looks like a sand dollar. The back is flat, with the following marks: The top line has sterling, the next live Avedon, and the last line vermeil. As I understand it vermeil means gold plate over sterling silver. This pendant does not look to have any gold plate. I have not had a chance to get a picture taken and downloaded yet. Any ideas?

Avedon Manufacturing Corp. began as New York firm specializing in hand-tooled prestige men's jewelry. After about 40 years, it was acquired by Colibri, Inc. of Providence, RI in 1984. Colbri is now a division of Park Lane Associates in Providence.

The pendant could be either white gold vermeil or platinum vermeil, which would account for the silvery color.
