I recall when this stranger entered our house. A man in a navy uniform. With him he brought me two brothers. A solid man with an air of authority. Now there was three last names in our family. "Mine, yours and ours." He loved my mother. A special man who took a woman in with five children

I remember the crowded supper table with this stranger the feeling of togetherness, warmth along with the knowledge creeping in that once again things seemed normal. This man was becoming a big part of my life keeping me on the straight and true course. Ball seasons playing against him. The time I was playing third and he said "Heads up rookie" as a screamed a liner down the base line that I only had time to stick my bare hand out to stop it. This man ...the only one in all the years I played ball who threw me out of a game. He was umping while I was pitching arguing with every call he mad from behind the plate. The man who seemed proud once I started pitching senior "A' fastball. Then there was the golf. Everyone in our abode did it. Even mom caught the madness. I tried a few times in vain ..... but the best part of my game was not going or in the woods finding balls with the occasional quick swim in the water hazards to retrieve those little white orbs of misery. which seemed to delight this man. He said that I should stick to swinging a bat and a detector.

I remember dad loading us into the truck on the way to a day at the beach. Family BBQs on the veranda. All the family from near and far enjoying the ribs, burgers and other delights. The joy of being whole, a family. Dad at a 50 plus club dinner and dance saying to my wife "Come on lets show those kids how to dance." He had more moves than Exlaxes. The look of joy on his face when he became a grandfather. Playing darts together at the seniors club in which he served as the president for a time.

I remember Paw leaving for a time being posted on the west coast. The time during a NATO deployment with my brother on board who was in sea cadets. Upon returning Paw told the story of my brother "window shopping" in the red light distract in Amsterdam. Meandering thoughts, not in any order of a man who I will forever keep a place open in my heart with love should he return from his final port of call! md2.webpchef.webp
