I saw a not so bright woman today

That Indian pipe was hard earned, that made it even more valuable because they knew how long it took to make it. They didn't have electronics to distract them, just trying to survive. Heck I struggle at times to make something and make it look good with all of my modern tools etc. but 100 years ago back, they didn't have this and they made some awesome stuff.

I live in Deltona Fl. I can't tell you how many times I've left the garage door open with my $28,000 Harley parked inside along with tools, washer/dryer/$3,000 water conditioner etc. and came back a few hrs/days later with nothing missing. I really pity the poor folks that have to worry about it all the time.
You don't have to worry about It until you do. Ran to Speedway for a cola one Sunday morning while the wife was at church.Didn't lock door. Gone less than 10 minutes and came home to a strange man in the house. Yelled and chased him out of the house, he was on foot he had a big bag full of stuff, collectible coins and currency etc. Police caught the guy but never found our stuff. Just glad I got home before wife.

A lot of times the druggies want valuable stuff they can carry. Always double check your small stuff. tools, etc.

She wouldn't have lasted 20 seconds in Baltimore! This week a deputy police commissioner was robbed and a lady with an infant was pistol whipped and robbed.

All I could think of was how quickly and easily someone could come up from behind and relieve her of her cash. She made it to her car and finally got inside. I know a lot of places that she wouldn't have gotten very far like that. To me it was a major DUH moment that she was very lucky on, even in a smaller town.

There's a lot of them out there the younger ones

Some of these folks are also behind the wheel. My wife's younger sister once heard me say "always assume that every other driver is trying to kill you" and was shocked and horrified LOL.

I have new neighbors. Just moved out here from the city. They are nice. They brought the city with them! Sighs! Talk about clueless!

Hahaha! When people visit who have lived in cities their entire lives, they cannot understand the woods around the house, the fact that I drive a pickup truck to the dump, or that we have a septic system (they never thought about what occurs after they flush) - and why we keep glass jars under the sink for grease from pans. I am always prepared to decline any well-intentioned offers to help clean up in the kitchen from folks who poured grease down their drains all their lives. They are nervous about the lack of street lights - "um, somebody has to pay for those things...".

What’s really surprising is to hear someone was carrying cash! Virtually unheard of any more.

Maybe she was a CRH'er on her way to the bank?

obviously you don't live in the country, there are a lot of businesses that don't take cards as well being hard to use at a garage sale etc. One of the best Diners in town doesn't accept cards, just cash or checks. We have a lot of people selling produce along the roads etc, cash only there too.

I live and work in rural areas. Half of the people in this country have no cash and pay with govt issued cards. Otherwise, any Joe running a small business can have a customer swipe their CC on a cell phone app.

They don't want to get caught with it on them so lots of times they will stash it nearby and come back for it. Search the area in the direction they were running when the police caught them. Probably closer to where the police caught them.

Had neighbors (retired State trooper) one time in rural Ct. that had their 2 trained German Shepherds get locked in an upstairs bedroom while someone stole stuff, including his 10 speed to aid in their escape. The next day my ex, who was home when the crooks came to our house the day before saying they were lost (whew- a close call), pulled up to the stop sign in front of his house to find a car stopped, idling and the driver door opened but no one in sight. Kind of odd so she wrote down the tag # went around the car and went home. This was BMP (Before Mobile Phones) and called it into the police. Imagine our surprise when it turned out the car was registered to the wife of someone with an extensive rap sheet and history of B&E. Turns out they were probably coming back to claim the pillow case of "goodies" they had stashed. Glad she didn't confront them.
The neighbor went into Springfield, Ma looking in the crooks neighborhood and actually found someone riding the bike. Jumped out of his car to give chase :icon_scratch: and realized he didn't want to lose his van also!! :BangHead:

You have to be smarter than the cash you are carrying ! This is a day and age, when she would be rolled for $1.00 bills, let alone 20's. She just lucked out and made it to her car. Sorry, there is scum everywhere.

LOL. Always fun to read your posts. Way back in my college years, a friend made some nice looking pipes (for smoking, not for plumbing...) out of soapstone.
Funny you mentioned that. Remember the pipes that were a piece of wood & a screen? Helped a guy that was making "accessories", built him a jig to drill the holes ten times faster & found him drill bits that ejected chips better so less splitting. The bowls were half of a #0 grommet with a disk of screen. Every week or sometimes twice a week, he'd come & slip the windwing window and drop a couple cases of beer in the back seat of my Baja. Oh! fun fact! If you bought one of those pipes they were made from telephone poles! One of the scariest things I ever saw was him breaking down the poles with a chain saw. The really scary part was ripping such small pieces with a radial saw! Lots of fun those days. Telling the OSHA inspectors, "We don't need no stinkin fingers!" :tongue3::laughing7: Yeah forgot to mention, the dude made a bundle! Both in cash & materials for his QC Dept to test fly the pipes with. :laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:

I don't have enough grease to cause problems with the plumbing, except on great occasion. Boiling water does wonders down a drain.

Same here - but my fear is not the indoor plumbing but the drain field outside. The perc was a deep one, so the drain field is deep. The lots on either side couldn't pass a perc test, so all three lots were combined into one, nice for some elbow room and wildlife.
