I was able to get out for an hour this evening after work to a new field with potential. This field is next to another field where I had found over 100 musket balls but this is the first time the grass has been cut. I didn't have a lot of time so I concentrated on a small area. First target was something I haven't found until now...a musket flint (and it's a big one)! The only reason I found it was the the lead wrap was still around it. Only other finds were a couple musket balls and scrap...but I'll be going back!

Great find! I wish I saw more flints posted here.

nice find. Gotta love musket parts. I still get excited when I find them as well. I should have enough parts to build a brown bess soon hah

Yup, I agree. Nice flint :icon_thumleft:, well done romeo.

hammered

Find plenty of Neolithic flints but never one of these, yet :hello2:

Now that is a find! Maybe they wrapped it to fit the clamp better. In any event, that is the best find.

Nice going on the flint. Interesting to see the lead wrap from it also. :icon_thumright:
Should be a button or a copper showing up soon if you do a return hunt.

It's a very strange area...over 100 musket balls and not one button...or anything else that you might expect. I know there is a screamer of a find in this area, just got to get the coil over it!

I assume the flint holder broken at the bend? That's a big part of the find, and probably the better relic. I think both pieces are fairly common at old sites but not still being together.

I'm not sure if it's broken or if it was two seperate pieces. Both pieces were found with the flint and there are lead stains on the flint from the pieces...

got a nice piece of flint like that in Dirtyville but wasn't lead wrap...sure it fell off long ago...

Great find there buddy and a welcome addition to any growing collection.

I think it has 'growed' enough.

No finds for you! (just lead balls)

What do you think? Two pieces or a missing chunk?

Looks like a good fit but strange the three pieces stayed together.

Yep...it was a total fluke that I even picked up the flint. When I pulled out the lead I was about to turn the plug but just caught a glimpse at the bottom of the hole. I checked for more but that was it.

That's pretty cool! I've found a couple trigger guards, something like that would make my day! :icon_thumright:

Made my day! Nice to be able to get a decent keeper on the first target...takes the pressure off!

I hate a good start, its the kiss of death over here, much rather slow & build up. Just different ways of thinking I guess. We always rib each other if we get a good first target & it always ends up the same - poor rest of the day :tongue3:
