2 hours after work today in the city forest ! Doing some foot work trying to pin down a site Boy is it getting dark early here now . I do not believe I found the site and not much to show. The 1920 D , merc a little bit of costume jewelry and then I found the crotel bell , a good sign ! 12 feet away I find what I believed in the field to be Spanish silver . Now I am not sure what the coin is ! 22 mm in diameter weighing in at 2.62 grams it has a reeded edge and appears to be copper base metal silver plated ! burned in a fire no doubt ! counterfeit Perhaps ? I also picked up the Hem weight close by . Maybe next time I will get an ID. MaineRelic

smashed silver. good silver. great hunt :icon_thumleft: MR TUFF

Iteresting find on old "coin" - put it on the What Is It? forum if you can clean it up a bit - try tooth paste. Not aware of any silver plated copper reales. Maybe counterfeit or jewelry?

Probably a 17th/18th or early 19th century billon coin... there are millions!

Never heard of it b4 -- what is it??

billon

- a low grade of silver. Although sometimes silver in color, usually made of part silver and part copper.

Very interesting stuff there!
What do you think this is? :icon_scratch:
