I think I've found an old homestead....

I think I have found an old homestead.....lots of old glassware, spons, rusty stuff. I have included some pics. I live in Texas.

pic 1 - What kind of military button in the middle? Also, I think the cuff links beside it have stars on them.
pic 2 - How old do you think the diaper pin is?
Pic 3 & 4 - no idea on any of this stuff....I turned them over in the 2nd pick
Pic 5 & 6 - It says Oak Lawn at the top. In the middle fnV7X, under that No.7. The date is 7, July 1977. Around the edges it says "win"

Thanks for your help.

Re: I think I've found an old homestead....

Photos 3 and 4--second item down is a snap closure from a canteen pouch or some other sort of gear. Military, WWI or Vietnam era--I forget...

To the left of that item is an umbrella or parasol "clip."

And below that is an organ reed.

Oaklawn is a horse racing track in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Maybe has something to do with that, especially if it says "win" on it.

At least as old as WWI on that snap deal-e-o. I agree wth all the other IDs...

The button is a US Army great seal button... no idea on age but post 1902 to present. I see on top there a boy scout button too...

Great bunch of goodies there.

On this same forum, our colleagues found the military style snap fastener was make by United - Carr Fastener of Boston. Google them for much more info.

The top button in the first pic looks like a Boy Scout button.
I'd "vacuum" that site!

Yes, I'd wager you have found an old homesite. Very interesting potpourri of finds. The last one is too blurry for me to make out though. Monty

Sure like to have a better pic of that medallion. This is an interesting piece and I believe its solvable. You may be reading it wrong or we may see a clue. Do you have a macro lens flower icon on your camera for closeups?

So who is going to the race track and betting on horse no.7 on 7/7/77 to win in the 7th race? LOL http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache...oak+lawn"+racing+win&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Now, is anybody going to a race track an bet on the #7 horse in the seventh race?

Supposedly, somebody made money doing just the on July 7, 1977.

Churchill Downs $100 WIN No. 7 7th Race 7/7/77 Money Clip

Up for bids is a Churchill Downs $100 WIN No. 7 7th Race 7/7/77 Money Clip. It has a nice brass finish with black and red coloring in the embossing.
racing medallion money clip.webpracing medallion.webp
The clip reads:

'Churchill Downs'
100 HUNDRED DOLLARS 100
FnV7X
No Sev7en
SEVENTH(7) RACE
7, JULY 1977
WIN (3 spots down each side)

ADDED NOTE: If we had known it said 7th race we would have realized what it was and found a match quicker. The Cheyenne kid put me in the right direction. It still needs to be solved as to who made these. I found 5 different racetracks online so far. Churchill Downs, Oak Lawn, Jamaica, Hialeah Race Track, Santa Anita and a sterling silver one from Belmont.

Re: I think I've found an old homestead....THANK YOU! YOU GUYS ROCK!

You guys totally ROCK! That is exactly what it is! It has a hole of the top (pendant maybe?)

Mine says,
Oaklawn Park
100 HUNDRED DOLLARS 100
FnV7X
No Sev7en
SEVENTH(7) RACE
7, JULY 1977
WIN (3 spots down each side)

Okay...I don't get it....why would anyone want any of this jewelry. Lucky charm? If so, WHY?

I found some more cool stuff today. I found an old shot gun round....I think it may be old. It says u.m.c. Co., New Club, no.12., a wheatie & by the way are those homemade bullets on that one pic? I am finding those everywhere....

Re: I think I've found an old homestead....

I think it is duplicate of a lucky winning ticket made into jewelry. FnU7X is a past winning ticket number perhaps. :icon_scratch: It needs more research. Something about No.7 on July 7 in the 7th race is supposed to be lucky or something. Some are 195X and others are 1977. There are pendants, cufflinks and money clips and from many different race tracks.

What are the letters on that melted piece?

I believe UMC is for Union Metallic Cartridge.

Re: I think I've found an old homestead....

UMC was indeed Union Metalic Cartridge , and was the the precursor to Remington. Early Remington shells had Rem-UMC on many of their cartridges. The New Club was a target round used for skeet and clays. I can't pinpoint the date for you however. I know just enough about shells and cartridges to get myself in trouble! Monty

I think we have IDed almost everything else but this melted piece and some buttons we cant see. We're getting close to a green check here. I wish we had better pics. Does your camera have a macro lens (flower icon)? I asked you this before in reply #9 but maybe you missed it. Its amazing we were able to ID this much with bad pictures.
