I thought I was seeing fireworks, but then ***update~it's REAL***

I realized it was the ruby's red glare, the diamonds bursting in air... ;D ;D ;D

What a long weekend I am exhausted, but had the best time ever.
Every day/night I was hitting the water at one place or another, it was the life.
I got so many toy cars, some are pictured some are not because at one point my pouch got so heavy that I gave 4 of them away to kids as I made my way down the beach. Not all of the clad is pictured, but it was around $8. I found a couple earrings and a silver necklace. I also found a ring of keys one night the fob was toast but it had a few important looking keys on it as well. I found it infront of a hotel, so I took them up and left them on the steps, incase someone was looking for them. My big find that still has me grinning is the 14k ruby ring. It will have to go to an appraiser for final verification, but I found one like it on line with a price tag of $3700

Now we all have our list of things we want to find, I now have to start a list of things I hope I never find or never find again. Below pictured is a cremation tag. I wasn't sure what to do with it, but did not want to leave it there because it is metal and does not belong on the beach, and most likely would end up in the trash somewhere. So I mailed it back to the crematory. No part of the urn was found just the tag..THANK GOD!

Congrats on the ring, it's a beauty!

For ashes, here's what I know: My grandfather was cremated, and his ashes contained bits of bone, maybe an inch long, and were very coarse. It's all dry, but heavy, and didn't blow around. He came back in a plastic bag in a cardboard box. My uncle had built a wood box for him, but it didn't all fit, so my grandmother kept the rest. Several years later, I began building wooden 'urns' for a local funeral home. With me charging more than I could have for anything else and the funeral director doubling the price, they were still less than half what any comercialy available one went for. I told him of the problem with my grandfather, and he explained that some places leave them in chunks, and other places crush them to fine ashes. The crematory he used, crushed them down, and they were delivered back in a plastic bag, inside of a nice black heavy plastic snap lid container. I just built the urns with an interior volume the same as the plastic box, so they could be taken out of the box, and slipped into the wood urn. When my grandmother died, I made her urn. She was buried, but the hole was only several feet deep, enough to accomodate a small 24 inch cube concrete vault, which sat just under the surface. When the time came, we actually set the urn right in the vault. I've since made an urn for one of my uncle's to house his wife, and made it from the wood of a tree that they had cut in their yard. Oh, I had also made verteran's urns which were a long box for the ashes which acted as a base for a triangular flag case. So some of my wood work is buried, and some sits in people's houses, but either way, they were able to choose a nice hand made piece that could be customized as they wanted, and pay much less than what is available. I'm told the real money is in pet urns... Anyway, the ashes may be fine or coarse depending on the crematory procedure, but a quick call to the funeral director will tell you exactly what to expect.

Here's hoping you find more toe rings, and fewer toe tags :)

Chaz,
thanks for the info. My mom came back in a black box, and we had gotten a nice urn off of ebay,(hundreds less than what a funeral home charged) that when we went to picked her up from the funeral home, they were kind enough to transfer her ashes over to the urn. I do remember them saying something about the crushing thing, but wasn't sure how crushed it would be. Maybe instead of scattering I will just have the ashes mixed and then bury them under the old tree.

my hubby is a cheapskate, but had he given me a ring like that and I lost it, I can promise I would still be out there to this day looking for it, because he wouldn't let me back in the house.
