I went to a spot that ive hunted once before after work today. We have dug civil war and Colonial relics here. Last week we found CW buttons, bullets and a Colonial shoe buckle dating to 1690. The site dates back to about 1619. Today i dug half an ox shoe, a CW general service button, a 3 ringer and this cuff button which looks older to me. Ive never seen one like it and couldnt match it online or in my books. Anyone know what it is? Thanks for looking.

It looks like a CW period US navy button. There were a lot of variations and some are just from blazers. I would guess navy.

Hold the cell phone in the horizontal position with the camera lens on the left top. You can also get an inexpensive editing program to rotate them.

I'm not an expert by any means on US CW Military Buttons, it's small, so maybe a two-piece uniform cuff button. :icon_scratch:
I hope it is military though, as there looks to be a cannon & musket below the eagle.

It's not you.
Half of my pics get turned during the upload. I turn them counter clockwise on my computer before upload so they're right when posted.
Cool button, and exciting site!

Nice find Ben, congrats!

Often the basic computer operating systems feature a basic photo editing program. As TW said during or after uploading you can open
the photo from the file and in the upper margin you'll see the "Edit" feature. Also you can right click on the photo in the file
and select either edit or open with. Browse in the program file to see if there is a photo program listed in example Microsoft
Photo Manager.

Best wishes!

I don't think so. I have found those before. The eagle is different on this one, and the anchor looks different to me also.

I see the differences with the wings and the anchor.

How about this?

this.JPG turn this (2).jpg turn 2 (2).jpg

This one is closer, but I'm not sure the top cannonball is in the right spot:

maybe this.JPG

Try resizing your pictures before you post them. A large file(picture) posts the way it will fit best. I usually resize mine to about 1400 pixels for the largest measurement.

Here's a good source of info on the various styles of old US Navy buttons.

US Military Uniform Buttons Interesting Facts - MISCELLANEOUS / OTHER - U.S. Militaria Forum

However there have been a ton of reproductions made for civil clothing like Blazers as previously mentioned.
I've only ever found one and unfortunately it has a steel back which is a dead give away that it was a reproduction because it would be stupid for the Navy to use steel backed buttons that would quickly rust around salt water.
