As you can tell by my avatar, I am in the fraternal Order of Masons. Have been in it almost 3 years now and it has become an important part of my life. Since juining, I have made many new friends from all walks of life by attending
some of the other lodges in our area, including a Mosonic Lodge in Sarnia. Ontario, Canada. Sometimes they come to
our lodge; sometimes we go over there. Last night at my lodge's monthly business meeting they elected me as "Mason
Of The Year". When the chairman of the Nominating Committee named me as their choice, I was so flabbergasted
that I was speechless. To be so honored with such a short timespan of membership it was hard to believe. Even today
as I think about it is seem hard to believe because there are others who I think deserve it much more than I.

Hope I haven't bored you with my personel life, but I just had to mention it. It feels so good.

If it is inappropriate please delete it.

Thank you for reading it.

Ray,

your Masonic Brothers must think very highly of you! congratulations!

Congrats Ray !

Right on!!!

When I was 14, I joined the local chapter of DeMolay. Basically joined because it was a 'boys' or 'young men's club'. Learned the basic rituals, attended the meetings....but eventually I guess I just lost interest.

In the mid 80s, I picked up the book "Holy blood, Holy Grail", and I realized what a lot of the stuff I had been taught back in the early 70s was truly all about.

Pretty fascinating!

Congrats on the honor they bestowed upon you!

Thank you to all you guys and gals for your replies to my post. I appreciate them so much.

The Masonic groups do so much to help people in so many ways.

Maltese Falcon,
There was a DeMolay group that met at our lodge, but this past summer there was only about 3 left. Those three had
been in it since the youngest age and really liked it. But others that had joined had lost interest too so they dropped
out. The ones that were left transferred to a lodge south of here and in a more populated area and still has a pretty
good turnout. And; by the way; I like your handle.

hey Ray, first of all, good news is never boring and never inappropriate. secondly, good news is always good. thanx for sharing. keep up the good work and be very blessed. dean in TX

Congrats on the great honor ! I know the same as they you deserve it!

Congratulations!

I have been considering becoming a Mason for awhile now. My great-grandfather on my mother's side was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Virginia in the 1920's-1930's. I have a textbook of the VA lodge dated 1907. Interesting reading.

Hello, and Good morning,Thank you to dingode and Mental granny for your nice replies. After the first ofthe year we always have an Awards Dinner. After this dinner they pass out the pins and plaques for 40,50, and 60 year membership. the Mason Of The Year, and someother special recognitions.

And markmopar, you mentioned you were thinking about joining. It is a great organization to be a member of. I'm really
glad that I got involved in it. You said that your great-grandfather was Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Virginia.
boy, that is way up the top. And that 1907 book would definitly be interesting. One thing about the Masons, though, is
we are not supposed to ask or invite someone to join. It has always been their belief that if a guy asks to join, they
will be joining because they want to and not because someone else wantd them to join. Therefore the person will get more
enjoyment out of it and be more invelved.
Last night I visited one of the other Lodges in my area where a friend, recently out of the Service, is a member. His
Grandfather was in the process of joining and was doing his second of the three degrees of membership. I know it was a
very proud event to have a large part in the ritual making his grandfather a member. In a way, it was a little unuasual
because it is normally the older family member who first joins.
Thank you for your reply to my post and have a great day.
