Took a vacation day today and of course decided to go detecting. Never mind that we were in the middle of an ice storm! Tried a new beach I haven't been on before and started finding the musket balls. Also found a button but if it was marked the salt water erased all traces. At one point I had to take off my glasses because they were covered in ice and I could not see.

One of the major hazards of detecting these beaches is quick sand...and I'm not talking about mud...real quick sand! I found two patches and got up to my knees in one before throwing myself down and out. On the way back to the car I found another patch but didn't sink...but I could feel the water just under the sand and mud...the whole area was quivering with my weight...if I had stood there much longer I would have been sucked down. No idea how deep and I don't want to find out.

Find of the day was the whale rib...I'll bleach it and it will display well!

There is another place just like that also up close to the rocks .....about 150 yards toward town from where you parked that day you met up with RICK and I .

The whole ground moves in a 15 x 30 foot area when you step on it...feels like it is floating on water...quite un-nerving actually.

Not a good thing to happen when out alone.

Like the whale bone !!!

Yep...I know exactly where you mean...treaded lightly in that area many times. You probably drove by me today, I was parked near the old retirement home on the same side. On the way back home I saw you on the beach. I would have come down but my feet were soaked and covered in mud...

We didn,t stay...damn it was freaking cold...fingers and feet were very cold...that wind was brutal cold.

Seen you parked there when we went by...figured might be you.

Got permission to hunt that field last sumer ......was at the bottom of that field where I found that silver match safe....but have never tried the shore there.

The guy to the west of there ...the house just over a ways from the bottom of the field...he is a real odd ball....freaks out if anyone goes on his property.

I tried to get permission from him to a great spot he owns 2 miles down the road further.
