Hi all,

I wanted to run this ICRR pass past you. It was found in Clinton, Ill., by a sidewalk. Clinton was a major ICRR hub.

I realize the token is not in very good shape, but I am curious as to its value.

I thought it is interesting that the number on the pass is relatively low, indicating that it might be a very early ICRR artifact. The fact that the number appears hand stamped and overstruck also interested me.

Thanks for any insights you can offer...

The "RR" leads me to suspect that this might be a railroad baggage tag of some sort. Check to see if any local railroad companies had those initials in their names.

Thanks for the replies. I have recieved no information on this. I surmise that it is very old. Especially being only three digits.

Thanks. Well, $36 is better than average as a find I guess. I wrote the guy to see if he could tell me more about the pass; age, etc...

Nice find!

Love R&R tags!

That token is listed in the Atwood-Coffee catlog of transportation token as Illinois Pass 999 V and catalogs for $5. I assume it is made of brass, and not zinc or aluminum. Transportation tokens often sell for 2 or 3 times catalog value. I have this token in my collection and it is counterstamped 41 on top of 31. these tokens were also reported to have been used as tool checks.
