Idea for hunting

I have an idea and i am pretty sure someone here is bound to have thought of it so far.
Does anyone here go to the "buy your gold" type places and try to sweet talk them into selling you any coins that come in?
If so, how has it been working for you and how did you approach them?

I don't think that'll work. Those buy your gold places are out to make a profit, and they know how much silver is worth just like we do. They'll want more than spot.

I agree - they will probably want to charge you 10x what they paid for it which was probably not much cash for the original seller. I know there are legitimate businesses out there making an honest living but some of those "cash for your gold" places are rip-offs. A local jewelry store advertising cash for your broken gold looked at four "silver" rings a friend had and offered her $10 for all four. I looked at them and determined that one wasn't actually silver but 10k white gold with a cluster of small diamonds (tested positive) worth around $50 buck gold scrap. You would figure the jeweler knew better!

I hope this doesn't offend anyone. If you are making an honest living doing this then I applaud you. If you run a scam cash for gold business then shame on you. Just my 2cents worth.

I've actually done that before and had quite a bit of luck. I go to a local jewelery store in a little retirement community. The owner has always been more than fair with me, both buying and selling. Plus when he has too much of a certain item, he will call me and offer me marked down prices. As long as you know what your looking for and how much you should be paying, then you wouldn't be risking anything by asking.

I've thought of going in one of those stores and looking for key dates and buying them for silver price when the might be errors or rare or double dies.
