I dug this buckle very close by to the RP Button and British copper spill I found early in the summer, but didn't get an id on it till today. Opened up my newly arrived "Collector's Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution" by Neumann and Kravic and found this page...an identical breech strap buckle!

Cool thing is that the action on it is still perfect

Now if only someone could confirm British, provincial, or continental... ???

Well that way easy! In beauty condition like yours, it doesn't leave much to the imagination. So often we get fragments and such, so it's a real treat to see a full example. Amazing!

Rev War Period & before but it's a Civilian British Breech Buckle as well. (Although on the larger end of the scale)

Nice to hear from one of the masters! Crusader, if it is British civilian do you think it likely would have been worn by a loyalist as a private item brought into his service?

Sorry kind of,but I meant it could be either Civilian or Military, so its hard to be sure which. As far as I'm aware this is not a Military issued item, but some of the military would have had them. I know this doesn't help much because it widens the circle of possibilities.

:occasion18::blob3::blob9::blob5::occasion18: Super find! Your clear pics show the perfect comparison! :notworthy: Congrats! Andi

NICE BUCKLE AND WELCOME TO TNET.....

Do they have "Brass Neck stock Medallions" in that book?

I've been looking for a book that has details like the pic you posted.

pencil: Is this what you are looking for? They are called Gorgets. Pgs 130&131 of this text.

No that's not it, its round brass about the size of a snuff can lid with an anchor in the middle and 13 rivets around it to attach a leather choker.

No luck, Pencil. Couldn't find anything like what you described.

Thanks for trying.
