2 weeks ago - took hot machine into cool water and leaked - batteries blew up
last night car broken into and 2 other machines stolen - I live in a great neighborhood - have a cop as a neighbor
but heroin addicts been hitting cars for quick items to turn into cash for drugs
they left a lot of other valuable items behind - thank God - but now I only have one water machine left
so no back ups - for now

Casper - sorry dude. Wish I had some words of comfort for ya. But that's part of the reason we live where we do - where there ARE NO PEOPLE!! Yes, I complain about skeeters and skunks - the groundwater is high all the time and rusts everything we own into oblivion, but hey! At least it's not stolen here!

...I lost faith in mankind some years ago - have yet to find it again. The folks on Tnet are truly a treasure(!!), but can only go so far towards correcting a much larger problem.

I DO hope you are able to find your stuff - at least the more important things. The van - well, some people get attached to vehicles. But really, there's always more out there. The most important thing is that you are safe! Everything that was lost can be replaced. You cannot!

...If they had any sense, they would have kidnapped you and made a post here demanding ransom!! :occasion14:

My uncle, a working musician, had his main guitar stolen by meth heads. They got $60.00 at a pawn shop for this $2,000.00 rare Gibson. The shops are not allowed to sell anything for a period of time in case the item comes up as stolen. The Gibson showed up a week after it went missing. It was the only one of its kind in Florida. He put bars on the windows after that. The clowns were in jail in 2 weeks. Not smart boys. Work with your police, they can help here. Good luck, I hope you get your stuff back.

That really stinks Casper. Just reading about it now. I would hate to lose my machines and I also keep them in the truck. Check Craigs List and Ebay also. Good luck.

What machines are gone? I think a lot on here would be on the lookout for you. Do you have serial numbers?

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes. I always like seeing your great finds on this forum...Stuart

Sorry to hear about this Casper.

And that reminds me to go write down the serial numbers on my detectors.....

Craig's list may be another place to track down the stolen goods.

That really sucks. I know you use these tools all the time and produce great results with them. Here's hoping for a quick find or replacement.
Best of luck out there!

Sorry to hear Casper. Had the same happen to me last spring. a detector taken from my truck toolbox. I filed a report and kept the info in my wallet report# and serial# of detector. Last winter I found it at the local swap meet serial number sticker still attached, thieves are notoriously stupid right. He had no choice but to hand it over.He claimed it went through two hands at the swap meet before he got it. It sucks having any thing taken but you never know. If you file the report also let the manufacturer know it just might show up for a repair in the future. Mine was a Tesoro and they put a note in there system for me.

Really sorry to hear of your misfortune, Casper...........
From your posts, I know how much and how well you use your machines. Hope you are fortunate enough to have LEOs up to the challenge of finding the low life perps and recover your property.
Our society sure needs a gut check.............

Casper read your post and felt sick when I read it. Sorry to read this post. I like all the others do enjoy seeing and reading your post. I wish you good luck and hope you will get your stuff back. Sometimes the police work wonders and I hope they find your stuff. Best regards.

Minor setback. Grandma predicts good fortune coming your way.

Probably 'METH' heads,,,,,,they will do anything for money for more dope....a meth head is just outright CRAZY :alien:

Hope you find your equipment soon.....may the force be with you !!!!

I spent a lot of time chasing car thieves here in FL. They broke in my car twice, stole a few cars, and broke into houses. Turned out to be a group of young teenagers (12-15) with one older (18) leader. They finally got caught because they stole an undercover police cruiser. You know if you have your car stolen you go into a database. If you have your police cruiser stolen, you have a team hunting day and night to recover your cruiser.

Anyway... they have been busted. Turns out 90% of the breaking around the entire city were from this one group of kids.

My advice, never leave anything in your car you aren't willing to give away.

Ok, so, WHICH detector leaked?

Have you checked with your home owner's insurance? They should cover the thefts from your vehicle.

Sorry to hear the news, Casper.

If you lived near me, I would loan you any of mine.

Yea sorry to hear about that. I ditto what beerguy says

strick

I know it's a really long shot but I just saw this thread on reddit where someone said he found two detectors in a pawn shop. Don't know if it's even remotely the right area but I thought I'd let you know: https://www.reddit.com/r/metaldetecting/comments/4wbyei/a_couple_gold_detectors_at_my_pawn_shop/

some good detective work there TrashureSeeker........just never know.....they should really tighten the screws on Pawn shops,,,,,,only legit things should be bought by these shops to begin
with....JMHO

Yes, but there are also lots of small Mom & Pop shops that just don't have the means to investigate every item.

I think there should be (if there isn't already) a national database for ANYTHING with a serial number. Something goes up for sale used or is brought into a pawn or consignment shop, just type in the serial number and see if there's a match. ...Just that it really needs to NOT be run by the Fed Govt!!

Yes, this would reaffirm that we should all write down our serial #'S and keep in a safe place. This should and could be implemented.....don't know quite how they would do, but think
as good as our computer bases are, could be done and even the smaller mom & pops with access to the internet, would catch the stolen items by a click of the mouse. Cool idea,,,kcm

You know, if it's dealing only with MD's, it might be possible to set up such a database here on Tnet. We have vendors here, plus lots of companies that are not vendors. And as Tnet is a global website, it might could even be used on a global scale - such as when Oddjob's equipment got stolen in Italy...or was it France?

Would still be better to have a central, neutral organization that would keep a database of ALL serial numbers for everything that HAS a serial number. If anything comes into a pawn shop or resale shop, or anything for sale online, anyone could go to such a website and do a search to see if the serial number is listed as stolen/missing. ...Sort of like the database that is used for sutomobiles. If a car has been in a wreck or a flood, it's "supposed" to go on that database. So, different, but similar.
