Metal Detecting
This old city square has been one of my favorite detecting spots for more than 30 years. It had produced many old coins in the past, but I had given up on it a long time ago because there wasn't much left to find there.
On a recent road trip my detecting buddy Jerry and I were looking for construction sites to hunt when we drove by the old park. We both looked at each other and said "Look, they have the whole park scraped".
Sure enough they had taken anywhere from 2" to 6" of sod of the entire square block. Between the two of us we got 28 Indianhead cents, 2 seated liberty dimes, 4 Barber dimes, a bunch of wheats, 2 gold rings, and a hand-made silver ring made from a Barber quarter, all in about 10 hours of detecting.
Even with the sod shaved off, the older coins were 3" to 6" deep.
