Metal Detecting
I have decided to return to one of my favorite hobbies recently - metal detecting. As some of you probably know I used to be quite active and have taken around half the year off mainly due to the fact that school kept me overwhelmed with busy work (I was the guy who pulled up that 1837 fifty cent piece in near mint condition last year). Now, on to the interesting stuff...

My father and I have been digging a new 1700s site recently, and have not pulled anything of interest out of the ground until now.

It certainly isn't 1700s but it is a WW1 era German Prussian belt buckle piece. I have no clue how or why this item could possibly end up in the boondocks of Vermont.

HH and I hope to bring you more interesting finds in the future! Going out this weekend to hopefully end the year with a bang!

Congratualtions on the interesting find! :occasion14:

Could have been a soldier's souvenir, or might have belonged to a Nazi that immigrated here back when there was a Nazi movement here.

Great find!

Nice find. It is different.

Congrats on the sweet find. :occasion14: I agree with kcm.

Wow, I bet that signal woke you up,,
Congratulations

Nice find!
You can tell about the age by the soldering on the back. If it has 4 soldering points its most likely the M48, which means it was introduced 1848. It's also bigger than the others. If it has two soldering points it could be either the M95 or the WWI M15/16 type. When you have the 2 point mount i tend to say it's the M95 because the crown points between the M and the T of MIT. Later ones had the M over the top of the crown.

Cool find. I have found something very similar, and had the same thought... interesting how that got here.

Wow! cool piece

it says " God is with us"
funny how each side in a war says that?

probably a lost souveigner

or, could it have been dropped as a hint about oak island? perhaps carried to vermont by the crusaders?

Nice find! I love all the potential for stories to explain some of the less likely things we unearth in this hobby.

Very interesting find indeed! Always cool to pull a unique item out of the ground like that.

It seems to have two solder points, so M95 sounds like it fits!
