Im new to all of this

Hi everyone im new to this ,me and my husband bought a metal detector as a new hobbie for us can anyone give me any help on what we should do first?
we have a treasure hunter 3030 We thought it was good for newbies,the first day i found a big peice of metal pipe woo hooo.
just looking for any suggestions to get us on our way with our new hobbie.
we will be going to beaufort NC next month and need some tips.

1hr of digging and all i found was 1-metal ruler,and old pipe,and a few beer can pulls.
i guess its better than nothing

we are trying to get used to it before our trip so we can actually find something and we are staying at a farm house on cedar island so we will have plenty to look for there!

great news I found my first coin yesterday after 1 hr of being eaten by bugs and looking around i kept getting a signal from a spot i dug last week and sitting right in front of my eyes (my husband picked it up) a 1995 quarter woo hooo at least i found something!!! LOL
it really is exciting when you pull something from the ground no matter what it is.
