I found this at an antique store today...The price $5!!!!!! I can barely type!!!!!!!!! I'll take more pics once the battery charges up.

I suspected that it would be brass but, it's still a great paper weight. I do know that those things happen. I was asked to help divide assets in a divorce case I was working on once and was flown to Sarasota. One of the items the husband showed me was a chunk of metal that he bought at a garage sale. He thought that it was a brass paperweight as did the owners. He saw the letters AU on the back so he bought it. He had it tested and it really was gold. Those things never happen to me. All I got was a allergies when they turned on the air conditioning in the locked up condo. Mold Spores!

If it were pure gold it would push (displace) 51 ml of water out of a graduated (measured) cylinder, because gold is 19.3 times more dense than water. Lead would push 120 ml of water out because it is 8.8 times more dense than water.
1000 gms divided by 19.3gm/ml=51.8 ml of water
