Detector(s) used
Many -- Fisher, White's, Minelab, Cobra, others
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Seldom does a total skunk hunt -- nary even a button found -- merit a report in here but I had to share this chuckler with fellow detectorists.

I'm sure many folks are like me and get highly focused when swinging a detector. Truth be told, I get downright zoned out, almost impervious to surroundings beyond my swing zone. Such was the case today, as I worked a section of NJ Pine Barrens. Being fully frustrated by no-hit hunting, I went into a slow and intense mode, one that often works when I have to get off the snide.

Well, I didn’t even have time to get off said snide before I got a jolt. As I was swinging, head down, I suddenly came upon a ground-level face staring up at me. I have to admit it was a bit of a freak-out, as the foliage in front of me took on a face.

With my “finds” camera at the ready, I was able to capture the moment as it unfolded.

AWW so cute but can be a bad thing... OK Quick story... Me and my wife was driving down the road one day and I spotted a little fawn in the bushes. About the same as the one you are showing. I said lets turn around and get a picture of it. So I get out and walk close to it and get the picture Cool I thought. Im gonna try to get closer and so I did then closer. I started to pet it. Now Im thinking something is wrong with it. Then comes the dumbest idea I ever got. Im gonna pick it up and see if its bleeding anywhere..DUMB so I did. All the sudden it lets out a noise no joke it sounded like MMMAAAAAAAAA all the sudden I heard stick breaking and hoves coming fast. I stood up turned around and a HUGE Doe was coming at me fast as lightning. I started to run for the car as fast as I could. She stood up and butted me to the ground. I got up and ran jumped in the car wich my wife already had the door open. Slamed the door shut. She jumped up on the side of the car. I drove away. Didnt get hurt but I was lucky cause she was very mad...Lesson learned,

Yes, aside from momma causing great bodily injury touching them leaves your scent on them and can cause a doe to abandon them.

Exactly. That's what I meant by imprinting them. Look, don't touch. Besides the possibility of deseases YOU can contract. Extremely rare, but rabies or any others . Look with your eyes not with your hands.
