Indian Chief Photo's...

I thought maybe some of you collectors/hunters would like to see some cheif photo's...

Photo take circa 1885.

Standing L-R: Brave Chief (Pawnee), Eagle Chief (Pawnee), Knife Chief (Pawnee), Young Chief (Pawnee), Buffalo Bill Cody, American Horse (Oglala Lakota), Rocky Bear (Oglala Lakota), Flies Above (Oglala Lakota), Long Wolf (Oglala Lakota)

I used my photo software ( torn photo) for the bottom pic, I have decided to frame this pic for my Artifact room. I added it incase anyone would also like to frame it..

I'll be posting more soon...

Molly. :)

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

Photo taken in 1885 - Montreal, Canada.

Sitting Bull (Hunkpapa Lakota), Buffalo Bill Cody..

"I am a red man. If the Great Spirit had desired me to be a white man he would have made me so in the first place. He put in your heart certain wishes and plans, in my heart he put other and different desires. Each man is good in his sight. It is not necessary for Eagles to be Crows. We are poor..but we are free. No white man controls our footsteps. If we must die...we die defending our rights."

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

nice pics
when I was a kid my folks would take me and my brother to see Sitting Bulls grave
Sitting Bulls grave was dug up several times and moved back and forth across the border between Mobridge
(where I was born) and Fort Yates before the argument was resolved
I know one of Sitting Bulls relatives named James Iron Eyes, also Hunkpapa Sioux (he used to work for me)
the 3 tribes , Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota are all from N&S Dakota

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

I always thought that this was Crazy Horse but, apparently there are no pictures of him in his proper attire., there are some of him in a white, tanned shirt, dark blue pants. There is possibly one picture of him and the carving on a hill in his image..... I will hunt one down though...
So I stand corrected, this is...

Little Big Man- Oglala- Lakota. He was Crazy Horses best friend...

Re: Indian Chief Photo's...

Poundmaker (c. 1842 – 4 July 1886), was born in the Battleford region, the child of Sikakwayan, an Assiniboine medicine man, and a mixed-blood Cree woman, the sister of Chief Mistawasis. Following the death of his parents, Poundmaker, his brother Yellow Mud Blanket, and his younger sister, were all raised by their mother's Cree community, led by Chief Wuttunee, but later known as the Red Pheasant Band. In his adult life, Poundmaker gained prominence during the 1876 negotiations of Treaty 6 and split off to form his own band. In 1881, the band settled on a reserve about 40 km northwest of Fort Battleford. Poundmaker was not opposed of the idea of a treaty, but became critical of the Canadian government's failures to live up to its promises. In 1873, Crowfoot, chief of the Blackfoot First Nation, had adopted Poundmaker thereby increasing the latter’s influence. This move also cemented the ties between the Blackfoot and the Cree, which successfully stopped the quarreling and arguing over the now very scarce buffalo.

Below:- "Poundmaker" & his adoptive father "Crowfoot".

Crowfoot, Blackfoot warrior and orator

"What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset."
