Found a bead along w/ some other Indian artifacts around a site I have been excavating. Internet is telling me the bead is a Venetian trade bead. Is this correct?

If so what a journey! Located in SE Wyoming.

Could be. Many were ,and it is not a Russian faceted. (Russia having had a West coast influence , and beads drifting through hands ,you never know...)

A lot of history with the Venetian trade and it's eventual move to Murano to reduce fire hazard (?).
Closely guarded trade secrets ....Seriously guarded by threat...

Tried to enlarge the pic but it gets blurry.
Appears to be mandrel wound and has a clay center.(Clay from mandrel to keep glass from sticking.) But then ,that could be what I want to see...

A keeper for sure. Congrats!

Nice finds.

They used some nice stone for those pieces.
Do you find that type of flint in your area?

I had a friend that found a bunch of small seed beads in WY years ago. He was visiting one of the old forts and found out you could walk around the fort early in the morning and find seed beads on ant hills. The ants found them underground and brought them up. Gary

Welcome to tnet! Nice finds, I see you have also found some Knife-River flint points and a nice scraper.

I have found quite a few seed beads and other trade beads here in Montana.

Nice find! I have found a couple over the years here in California. They were with other artifacts. Very cool.

sweet finds. I love arrowheads. Don't get to hunt them much any more. Seems like everyone I knew that had some land to find 'em on either passed away or moved

Yup, all of these pieces were found in the same area and more or less at same depth. Its a fairly productive area!
