Creek walking this evening. Found this Indian paint pot. My first in a long time. Glad to get it, to show my granddaughters.

2 of my granddaughters hadn’t heard of these. Hopefully we can go creek walking together. I think they’d love it. Too much soccer and softball!Neat find.

That is a natural hematite concretion. They are not uncommon and they are not man made. Here's an example of the type you have:
Some were used by natives to grind the surface of the concretion to create a red pigment. They were used in pairs. With a little spit in the "cup" portion rubbing the two stones together would produce a red paint of iron oxide.
It doesn't look like yours was used for that purpose. The ones that were used to grind paint had the rough light colored rock inclusions removed. Here are some examples of hematite concretions that were used as red paint pots by natives in New York:
