many other highly well known "professional" treasure hunters have read the PS at the bottom of alexaders spotswood letter of Oct 24th , 1715 and wrongly assumed it was talking about the nao SAN MIGUEL -- but not so fast my freinds -- upon farther reveiw by me --- I find that it should be properly read this way --- to say this --- that a bark* that was sent from havana to the 1715 fleet wrecksite which picked up a large amount of silver and important people that survived the 1715 fleet disaster later sank with no survivors while going to spain "about 40 miles to the NORTHWARD of St Augustine"--- the bark was carrying silver recovered from the fleet and VIP people of note.
there is also a letter from cuba to the viceroy of mexico dated Oct 19th,1715 that states according to reports from St Augustine --- "15 leagues to the leeward of this port (St Augustine) wreckage of a large vessel or vessels was found on the shore" --- using the old spanish league of 2. 6 miles per league -- 15 leagues is equal to 39 miles --- and by refering to the english letter it is clear that "leeward" is to the north.
in plain words --- there are 2 "historically valid" documents from the 1715 era by the british and the spanish that both state there is a wreck in the nasssau sound bay area -- --(39 to 40 miles NORTHWARD OF ST AUGUSTINE)
worthy of note is the fact that there is a map of AMELIA ISLAND and the surrounding waters made by CAPT WILLIAM FULLER ---IN NOV OF 1769 * that shows a shipwreck in nassau sound in the right zone -- funny thing is it is the only ship wreck noted on the map and it was outside of the normal island shipping channel areas--- (so it had to be important)
I have submitted a claim with the state of florida for claim of discovery but they say its in a "aquatic preserve zone" so "no profit salvage recovery permit will be issued" only "reseach permits"
so please read it for yourself and see what you think -- now tell me do I make my case and do you think I'm correct?
a simple yes or no will do -- however you can say more if you wish to of course. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it .
