Hello everyone! I recently inherited this artifact collection from my great uncle who found all these in the southern ohio area in the 60s. I have no idea what they are worth or how old they are and any help would be appreciated! The largest of the arrowheads measures 3.5" and the axe heads also measure around 4" long....incluided a lighter for size reference. Thanks!

You've got some really nice stuff there!

Thats a nice collection. What do you plan on doing with it?

Thanks! Not exactly sure yet....might frame and keep them or might sell them...no idea what tgey would be worth though.

Beautiful. No offense but don't sell them. Keep them in the family.

thanks they are beautiful but even if i do decide to keep them i would still like to know what they are worth for insurance purposes.

I agree with Bsit and maybe you should consider keeping them for others in the family to enjoy generations down the line. Insurance value? They are nice no doubt, but not high end enough to need insurance coverage. JMO.

I agree. keep em. that is a nice collection. and coming from your uncle makes it more valuable to you and your family members than what u would get outa sellin them. thanks for sharing.

What part of southern Ohio are you in? I am in Scioto county and if you are close I'd like to see those in person. As far as value, they are all pretty much field grade and really don't have a lot of value. The Axe would be the piece worth the most.

I'm actually living In the Chicago area now

Very nice. One or two of the pints look pretty nice and that axe. If you are close to Grim he can help you on value. Best wishes with your collection!

Thanks I do wish there was someone closeby that could tell me exactly what it is that I have

Take some more pics outside in natural light and use the Marco setting on your camera. Just add those pics to this post. The ones now are kinda blurry.

down dirty and rough, I would say you have about 500$ or so parted out on Ebay....truly not worth doing so. It looks to me like what your uncle has is a nice selection of farm field pieces...was he in agriculture? Were those mine, I would find a nice vintage cigar box and put them in it so that you can take them out from time to time and handle them.

I agree with the rest, there are no high dollar pieces here. They are, however, a good honest collection and should be preserved as such. I would invest in a good frame (30 to 35 dollars) to protect the points and put it in a good spot to remember your Uncle.

Thanks everyone for your insight, and i think i have decided to keep them in the family. i would however like some more information on what i have here, like age, type, ect. here are some better pictures. thanks!20130628_155215.webp20130629_130603.webp20130629_130608.webp20130629_130617.webp20130629_130625.webp20130629_130632.webp20130629_130640.webp20130629_130649.webp20130629_130657.webp20130629_130704.webp20130629_130734.webp20130629_130752.webp20130629_130821.webp20130629_130827.webp20130629_130838.webp20130629_130851.webp20130629_130900.webp20130629_130917.webp20130629_130951(0).webp20130629_130951.webp20130629_130959.webp20130629_131017.webp20130629_131027.webp20130629_131035.webp20130629_131050.webp20130629_131058.webp20130629_131104.webp

Red one looks natural but might be Horse Creek Chert.

1 full grooved ax with bit damage 75$ , 1 3/4 grooved ax 75$, Game Ball or hammer stone 15- 25$, 1 broken ax study piece, bottom right 2 Celts 50-75$ each, 1 drill 8$, 1 flake knife 2$, the reast are field grade points 5-8$ each some less in value. All guesses but should be close in value for you. There you go. The Celts and Axes are worth the most.

You have some nice pieces there. Rock, no offense, I know the market is at a buyers advantage right now, but for those prices, I wouldn't sell my geofacts. That's just me. I would say the prices you quoted are probably pretty close.

does anyone have any idea what the red pigment colored stone is....i was told it is a "paint stone" when i got the collection but not sure if that holds up....have seen them going for alot of money on ebay.
