Interesting 1890 Medallion,Victorian Pin & Ring Found At Garage Sales

This is part II of my garage sale finds,as my first post was exceeding the file size.

Womans Christian Temperance Union Medallion 1890(Chicago)

I should really clean it up or should I ???

A Victorian Pin, and the back has is dated(May 31, 38?). I think it's 38,it's really difficult to read.
The woman that sold it to me said I should buy it because it was not common for women to have their photo taken and put on a pin back then; it mostly applied to men. I don't know if that is correct or not,but I only paid a couple of dollars for it and I think it's really unusual.

Check out the next set of photos for the ring.....

A man sold this ring to me and he said it was his daughters ring but she didn't want it.

It's not marked at all and has no gemstone, and has NO engraving on it. It's a 1965 prom ring on chain, and it was such a deal I couldn't pass up.

Oh and I forgot two more interesting items, see next set of photos.

The 1890 WCTU medal appears to be white metal (a pewter-like alloy), and it would definitely be a mistake to attempt to clean it. Aluminum, which was just beginning to be used in medals at that time, doesn't respond very well either. Chances are, it will just end up with a lot of hairline scratches and an unnaturally bright or "off" appearance, and there's no going back. I'd leave it as is.

BTW, here's a link to more info about the WCTU:

I remember seeing a video clip with some of the WTU stating:
"lips that touch alcohol will not touch ours"

I believe they were a major contributor in bringing Prohibition.

Had a medal identical to yours. I sold it on ebay a few months back.

Back then Aluminum was considered precious metal.

Nice batch of goodies.

Yard sales have always been great places to find treasures. A lot of people do not know how much an old item may be worth so they sell it cheap. As hunters we are always on the prowl to make more finds. Congrats on the finds..may you have many more..RH
