This old quarter size coin is wrapped in 14k gold to make a pendant out of it. It was found via estate, and no one knew a thing about it so was wondering if anyone here might could identify it? Looks like something from an old shipwreck? Thanks
Potosi 2R 'pillars and waves' coins were minted between 1652 and 1773, the date would appear below the 'SVL'.
The mintmark, assayer's initials and the date all seem to be 'toast' on this coin, though a fraction of the last number in the date is visible.
Don.....
Thanks guys for the info., I appreciate it.... Kingskid, aside from the gold wrap, I'm wondering if it has any value? I actually paid .75 cents for it and a sharks tooth pendant.
