I was going thru all my junk boxes of buttons and smaller relics finds yesterday and first I was pleased to find a total of over 30 of those early 1800 Crown/Prince of Wales, or Eagle backmarked buttons, I tripled the number I thought I had, so it does pay to go thru very old finds now and then.

But, I noticed one button backmark in particular that caught my eye and I never saw any others with a Irish Harp used in the backmark. I have no idea why it is there, not sure if it was again, just a patriotic thing done by British button makers for selling buttons in Ireland or an Irish makers mark. So open for discussion on that one and does anybody else have one like this or know of any others? The front is plain, worn gold gilt, no design or letters..........

Have never seen that backmark before. Wish it'd been a harp on the front, maybe with the letters I.J.G. underneath.

Cheers,
