Any ideas what this might be? Came from an old home site (19th century). I think a doctor lived there.

My first thought was scythe blade too. My mind thinks in weird ways...power of suggestion. ''I think a doctor lived there". Is this why bone saw was mentioned? If TheGroundHog had said an old farm field, I'm thinking scythe, draw knife may have been mentiond.

Sickle bars are curved.
Your section is straight, like a draw knife.
Also, there are NO teeth on it for a saw.

Draw knife or spoke shave as ARC described it.

The Draw knife makes sense like they used to shave timbers !!!

They used them to shave the bark and make the timbers flat sided. Amongst other things

I've not seen such a tang on a draw knife.
The scythe idea seems closest.
I've one on the shed wall , but not willing to wade in the snow to eye it. L.o.l..
But the tang stands out.

And the rib on top of the blade resembles a "commercial" scythes more than a draw knife's too.

You're thinking of a cross cut saw, which have detachable handles, completely different then when is shown here.
