Hi everyone,

I recently found this iron piece with rivets. It has the word wheel and the number 2 stamped on it. Any idea what kind of wheel this could have been a part of? Found in a gold mining area (1850's -1930's)

Any ideas? It's iron with a single brass rivet.
Thanks!

the thing with the #2 on it is the top part of a shovel head. The part of the shovel that attached to the handle

The second piece looks like a homemade repair item. Maybe to cover the ventilation hole on a parlor stove? :dontknow:

Thanks a lot everyone and thanks for the great pics Matt. That's what it is. The word 'wheel' threw me off.

I enlarged the pic that shows the 'wheel', but to me it looks like it says Whea... I imagine it's the manufacturer company name. Perhaps 'Wheaton' or something there-abouts. If you spent enough time researching shovel makers from the mid to late 1800's you might figure it out
