Thought since it was 57 degrees today I'd head out to my own backyard. Well you know, being so close to Christmas and my son being home for the holidays I didn't want to stray to far. I really did, but thought better of it. So I took the dog out to the backyard,
Like everyone else, I've hunted my yard plenty of times, and like everyone else I always find something interesting. Anyway, the signal was clean, in the nickel range, and was at 5.5".
Up come this Madonna and child locket/pendant. It's roughly the same size as a half dollar and close to a 1/2" thick. A short single strand of chain is still attached. I have no idea what this locket was used for. It's light weight but seems like a huge piece to wear around ones neck. Inside it says. Made in Germany Alpacca. Thought it was ironic this this find came up so close to Christmas.
Looks old, I just don't know how old. Would like to know what it was used for. Haven't been able to find anything online yet that looks anything like it.
Alpacca is:
Alpaca (also spelled alpacca) is an alloy consisting of mostly copper (roughly 60 percent), and approximately 20 percent nickel, about 20 percent zinc, and about 5 percent tin. This metal is a a silver substitute.
Enjoy the pictures, and your holiday.
