I heard that earbuds can be used instead of the big headphones. If that's true, I would use the earbuds. Ideas ?

I was also told that using headphones ( earbuds ) that they will save the life of my batteries. Is that true ?

I use them and manuals will tell you batteries last longer. I think the detector is looking for 32 ohm impedance.

Buds aren't as loud to me, but with headphones I couldn't hear anything else. Cars, people, phone, etc.

Thanks. My issue was wanting to hear what's going on around me also. I think I'll give it a try.

If you are worried about security, just use one earbud. If you want a louder sound, use a 8 ohm bud. Frank...

Security is the main issue. Your idea sounds good ! Thanks Frank

Just try using one side of headphones over ear (I prefer the right side) and keep other side a little above ear. Works great for me. Also there's a headphone called the Rattler that covers only one ear.

I had problems with my ATP since it is more of an audio machine and the headphones that come with it suck. I researched to find what would be to me the best--one wire, inline volume control, and ear buds that do not totally block out all sound like ear plugs and here is what I found and use. go to Koss.com and look for the koss P9 earbud headphones. they are ear buds but face forward instead of directly into the ear, don't worry they still give great full range sound, they are also on a back of the head wrap around band so they stay on and since they go around the back of the head you can wear any hat you want. they have an inline volume control, weigh like an ounce, you barely feel them and cost $10. I thought for that price they were junk but I was proven wrong and now many members from our club are using them or buying. oh and they are at the proper ohm

Thanks for the info ! Something for me to look into.

Very cool, thanks for Koss suggestion

Hey Thanks for that info....After the first summer with my ATP , i had to ditch the headphones completly, i felt trapped wearing them...Not to mention they would be full of sweat when i took them off

I only use the original big headphones when I go to the beach for a couple reasons. 1. with the ocean you cant hear much at all with the wind etc. 2. with big headphones it keeps ppl most of the time from coming up and asking "finding anything", "what are you doing"?

I use a set of Koss head phones. They have a extra long cord. $40.00 bucks at Walmart. Never tried buds, cord is too short.

Ok.... I tried them the other night and like to drive me crazy. The cord got in the way all the time and I have very long hair that got tangled in the cord but a girl told me to run it up under my shirt to keep it out of the way. The signal sounded totally different with buds too. It was like learning to detect all over again when I had my signals down good. If I'm in an area with no people there will be NO BUDS !!!
Thanks for your info :)

Take a look at koss.com and look at the p9, they are not like the typical ear buds, they're more like headphones that wrap around the back of your head, go over your ear then small speakers that face forward in your ear not into your ear like the buds do. I don't like bids because of how they sound and feel. Just look at them and see what u think.

Good question but I also know that the 3030 is programmable to control the tones so I wonder if once you use the lower ohm if there were even an issue that the tones could simply be changed back or at least near how they originally sounded. I use an ATP and as long as you have the adapter to that allows the use of the standard plug you can use the p9s. With the AT pro the tone roll is a huge benefit on trash and those little headphones give you the ability to hear it to much easier.

Basically, the lower the ohms ( resistance), the higher the volume. For tone reproduction check out the frequency response specs, but I suspect that the frequency doesn't vary that much. Frank...hand print-2_edited-5.webp

Sounds logical that the gain will go up thus resulting in a louder reproduction under the same settings.
