I have a friend in the UK who hunts beaches. He said you can only hunt at night but he does well.

Had loads of good stuff plus there is very little competition on the wet sand and in summer it not hard to
pick 25-60 pound up in a night from the dry sand of the more busy beaches
few bits from the last two trips

Anything over 300 years old is considered "treasure trove"..and belongs to the queen,yes. Which makes America safe for a few more years so you have nothing to worry about! :P

You seem to be getting caught up on this site where this lot are finding huge amounts of "bling" all the time.This is purely an American phenomonem! Brit's (or swedes ) don't go in for "bling" much,and if they do they don't wear it to the beach!
As stated,you'll find a lot of cash on Brit beaches as well as wedding/engagement rings etc(if lucky enough) , but forget the huge diamond encrusted gold items our American brethren pull up....we just don't do them.
If you do hunt at night anytime..then don't forget a lot of our beaches have tides that come right up to the sea wall,and some come in bloody fast!
