Is there any particular website that can be used to look up old casings by the writings on them to determine what gun/era they might be from?

not free. There is a huge reference book called "Cartridges of the World" that is pretty exhaustive

Yours - 1896 to 1927 (would say "Made in USA" later)

The rifle is a .32 Winchester Special case made by Savage Arms. 1894 to now, but likely 1920's to 1930's by the looks of that one.
